A needs assessment survey was conducted with approximately 500 people responding.With the survey results, an outreach and services strategic plan is being tailored specifically to the needs of our community to improve elder victim safety, increase abuse accountability, and expand awareness around the problem of elder abuse in later life.Recognizing that individuals who are 50 years of age or older who are victims of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking, face unique barriers to receiving assistance, Congress created the Abuse in Later Life Grant Project.Administered by the Office on Violence Against Women, this grant program creates a unique opportunity for providing or enhancing training and services to address the needs of older victims in our community.The average amount lost in an online dating scam is an estimated £10,000.The latest effort will see fraud police working with Victim Support, Age UK and Get Sate Online to try and reduce the number of people falling victim.Provo City Police Department has been fortunate to have been awarded an Abuse in Later Life Grant.In 2012, an Elderly and Vulnerable Adult Coalition was formed from various agencies who are passionate about elder abuse issues.
